Ultrasonic sensors from Leuze: Versatile, compact and affordable!

The 60th anniversary already indicates that Leuze is a reliable link for detecting and signaling in industrial automation. This is partly due to the many patents and the presence in many machines, along conveyor belts, in factory halls and so on.

In addition to the many possibilities with optical sensors, Leuze also wants to emphasize that this is not the only thing they do. For example, the latest addition to the ultrasonic sensor program is worth mentioning: a completely new series of switching and measuring ultrasonic sensors HTU 200 and DMU 200 that helps you if an optical or inductive sensor cannot handle it! Equipped with IO-Link and available in standard length, but many “short body” shapes are also available.

The HTU 200 is not only available in the widely used M18 diameter variant (range up to 1500 mm), but also in the M12 version up to 400 mm and in the extremely narrow 8 mm design, especially for places with little space (100 mm scanning distance). The narrow opening angle makes it possible to detect even with very little space (e.g. filling height in bottles)!

If you don’t want to switch, but want to measure, choose the DMU 200 Series, an extension with analogue variants and Multiplex function, in 18 mm and 30 mm design, up to 6 meters working range!

All variants are extremely robust due to their metal housing and IP67 tightness class. Recognizing granules, liquids or powder is problem-free; even if there are highly shiny, transparent, dark objects: choose Leuze’s family of ultrasonic sensors! There are various mounting options available in stainless steel and plastic and even a handy bracket that makes angled exit of the sound simple!

Leuze: sensor specialist for detection, identification, optical data transmission and measuring sensors. Together with itsme we will help you further!

More information on itsme (Industrial Technology and Supply for Mechanical and Electrical): https://www.itsme.eu/corporate/en/EUR/  + itsme is the family name of an international group of six companies that offer innovative technology and distribution to industrial end users, machine manufacturers, panel builders and industrial installers.

itsme (industrial technology and supply for mechanical and electrical) is aimed at industrial end-users, machine and module contractors, and technical installers with a diverse range of electrotechnical and mechanical products and solutions.

The company started as ES Elektro and took over Hoogland-Mennens in 2008. At the start of 2010, the German company Schultz+Erbse was taken over by itsme and in April 2011 itsme started trading under the name Breemes in Belgium. In Romania, itsme is active under the name ES Elektro Romania and on 1 January 2014 itsme’s Spanish branch, Elektres, opened its doors.

itsme has an annual turnover of 205 million euros and has 550 employees at 21 branches in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Romania and Spain.

Companies part of itsme:

  • itsme Netherlands (ES Elektro): https://www.itsmenederland.nl + Market leader in the provision of electrical components and accompanying services to industrial end-users, (suppliers of) mechanical engineers and technical fitters. ES Electro has 16 branches located throughout the Netherlands
  • Breemes Belgium: https://www.breemes.be + In Belgium, we operate under the name of Breemes and are active as a distributor of electrical components to industrial end users, machine builders and technical installers. With a team that offers years of experience and practical knowledge, Breemes means more than the supply of components. In addition to its own consultants in industrial automation, lighting and connected business, Breemes can offer innovative and proven solutions in technology, logistics and E-business.
  • Elektres Catalonia: https://www.elektres.es + Elektres is itsme’s commitment to the Spanish market. hrough this portal, both our existing clients and those who are not yet, can consult, compare and, logically, buy all the products (over 1 million) from our online catalog, browse through all the services and solutions that itsme offers you, check orders, delivery notes and invoices in real time, create your own stockmanagement system, and obviously send us any questions, queries or questions.
  • ES-Elektro Romania: https://www.eselektro.com + Whether it is about sourcing, technical Helpdesk, EDI connections, international support, customer reporting, repairs or commissioning, we offer you the familiar trust of 100 years experience in an efficient and up to date way! A broad Mechanical and Electrical products portfolio combined with specialized expertise in our solution departments Lighting Technology, Industrial Automation and Connected Business (logistic solutions) differentiates us and puts us in pole position to help you.

EMR Additional Notes:

  • Ultrasonic Technology:
    • Ultrasonic technology is defined as the process of using barely audible and inaudible sound waves to transmit digital data. It is also known as ultrasonic data transmission.
    • Ultrasonic sensors work by emitting sound waves at a frequency too high for humans to hear. They then wait for the sound to be reflected back, calculating distance based on the time required. This is similar to how radar measures the time it takes a radio wave to return after hitting an object.

  • IO-Link:
    • IO-Link is a powerful standard, an increasingly deployed point-to-point serial communication protocol.
    • It allows for the bi-directional exchange of data and is used to communicate with sensors and/or actuators.
    • Extending the globally recognized PLC standard IEC 61131, it allows three types of data to be exchanged – Process data, service data, and events.
    • Major sensor manufacturers and industrial manufacturing companies have joined the international IO-Link Consortium to promote the IO-Link communication protocol due to its many advantages over standard I/O.

  • IP Ratings (Ingress Protection):
    • A two-digit number established by the International Electro Technical Commission, is used to provide an Ingress Protection rating to a piece of electronic equipment or to an enclosure for electronic equipment.
    • The protection class after EN60529 are indicated by short symbols that consist of the two code letters IP and a code numeral for the amount of the protection.
    • Example: IP65 (NEMA 4)
The two digits represent different forms of environmental influence:
      • The first digit represents protection against ingress of solid objects.
      • The second digit represents protection against ingress of liquids.
    • The larger the value of each digit, the greater the protection. As an example, a product rated IP54 would be better protected against environmental factors than another similar product rated as IP42.
  • IK Ratings (Impact Kinetic):
    • IK Rating or “Impact Protection” (the K is from ‘Kinetic’ to differentiate from IP rating) is defined in international standards and indicates the level of resistance an electrical enclosure provides against mechanical impact.
    • K09 rated items are protected against 10 joules of impact, which is the equivalent of a 5kg mass being dropped from 200mm above the product.
