Gira honors anniversaries

Radevormwald, December 21, 2024. 

“For Gira as a family business, the annual anniversary celebration is part of the regular program. We come together here to honor our anniversaries and celebrate with them,” explained Sebastian Marz, Managing Director of the building technology specialist and smart building pioneer Gira (www.gira.de), in his welcoming speech at this year’s anniversary celebration of the Bergisch medium-sized company. 

“Because as a company, we are getting through these turbulent and challenging times well because we can rely on one another and everyone is pulling together. We can be really proud of our joint performance and our solidarity.” 

Gira also benefits from the enormous wealth of knowledge and experience of its long-standing employees. In 2023 and 2024 alone, 39 employees at the medium-sized technology company from Radevormwald were able to look back on 25 and 40 years of service respectively. Gira thanked these employees with its own celebration for their great loyalty and their active contribution to the successful development of the company. 

“We would like to say a big thank you for your loyalty to Gira and for your constant willingness to stick with our company through thick and thin,” emphasized Managing Director Marz. “Especially when many things have become fast-moving and are seemingly in constant change, such consistency is good and of great value.”

Lots of applause

Well over 200 guests had gathered in the “Event Arena” in Remscheid to honor their colleagues together with the Gira management for the first time in this new location. The previous venue, the Remscheid Vaßbendersaal, had become too small for the size of the crowd of guests, current and former anniversary guests. But even so, it was crowded on the stage when all the guests of honor gathered there for the obligatory group photo. Beforehand, the managing directors – each for their department – had introduced the honorary anniversary guests present individually, giving details of their respective careers at Gira, professional interests, particular successes and personal strengths. But one or two anecdotes were also told, to the delight of all present. The applause with which the honorees were honored was correspondingly loud.

Regulars’ table on the company’s history

Gira company archivist Julia Kneiphoff-Nünnerich was present for the first time at the anniversary celebration. She not only provided information about the company archive and its purpose, but also looked for people interested in a regular get-together in the archive to discuss the family company’s almost 120-year history.

“Long-standing employees like our anniversary celebrants are, of course, an exciting and important source alongside other records that I would like to tap into for our archive and our history communication,” says the historian, who has also headed the “History Communication” working group of the German Public Relations Society (DPRG) since September. “I hope that our regulars’ table will bring us lots of stories, big and small, that will ultimately make up the history of Gira.”
