Stainless steel control cabinets and housings withstand the most adverse conditions
And control cabinets and housings made of stainless steel are not only suitable for demanding environments. Thanks to its technical properties, this material is also the first choice in numerous areas where cleanliness and the avoidance of deposits are important. These include, for example, certain areas of application in the pharmaceutical and food industries.
The most important properties that stainless steel offers users are:
- ✓ long-lasting and durable
- ✓ very mechanically resistant
- ✓ high corrosion resistance
- ✓ hygienic and dirt-repellent
- ✓ excellent temperature resistance
- ✓ low maintenance and easy to maintain/clean
Compact control cabinets AX and small housings KX made of stainless steel – the robust and flexible solution
The AX stainless steel and KX stainless steel series offer optimal system protection and can be flexibly adapted to the respective requirements. Installation is quick and easy. The stainless steel housings are available in the materials 1.4301 (AISI 304) and 1.4404 (AISI 316L).
Compact enclosures AX stainless steel from Rittal
All Rittal system advantages can be used with the AX stainless steel series. The compact enclosures are characterized by a patented system of embossed housing cams.
Together with the also patented interior installation rails, the components and accessories of the VX system can be used for interior installation in a 25-millimeter grid, such as various chassis, cable clamp rails or support rails.
Interior fitting is made particularly easy by the fact that system components and accessories can be installed quickly and safely using the interior fitting rail without drilling: from door locks to cable conduits and terminal strips to control cabinet lights.
Possible application scenarios include the infrastructure sector, the packaging industry, wastewater management and process engineering.
These properties characterize the AX stainless steel compact control cabinets:
- » quick and easyinterior fitting without drilling
- » embossed camsfor quick and precise use of the rail in 25-millimeter increments
- » easywall mounting thanks topunched holes
- » Simple installationof the mounting plateensures secure fastening

From planning to maintenance – Rittal’s system advantages offer consistent work simplification
Rittal offers a perfectly coordinated system platform that combines high-quality products with innovative and digital engineering solutions. Users can also benefit from the digital tools with the stainless steel system cabinets and housings.
These include, for example:
- » EPLAN
- The software solution supports system engineering from end-to-end planning to production. All data from the AX stainless steel and KX stainless steel series is already integrated so that a digital twin of the system can be created. The software also offers the appropriate support for commissioning, maintenance and servicing.
- » ePocket
- With the digital circuit diagram pocket, machine and system documentation is always at hand, from any location, and always up to date. The browser-based application thus enables a continuous flow of data from circuit diagram creation to maintenance and repair. For example, the EPLAN Cloud and all stored data can be accessed directly from a tablet using the QR code on the control cabinet.

EMR Additional Notes:
- IP Ratings (Ingress Protection):
- A two-digit number established by the International Electro Technical Commission, is used to provide an Ingress Protection rating to a piece of electronic equipment or to an enclosure for electronic equipment.
- The protection class after EN60529 are indicated by short symbols that consist of the two code letters IP and a code numeral for the amount of the protection.
- Example: IP65 (NEMA 4)
The two digits represent different forms of environmental influence:- The first digit represents protection against ingress of solid objects.
- The second digit represents protection against ingress of liquids.
- The larger the value of each digit, the greater the protection. As an example, a product rated IP54 would be better protected against environmental factors than another similar product rated as IP42.
- IK Ratings (Impact Kinetic):
- IK Rating or “Impact Protection” (the K is from ‘Kinetic’ to differentiate from IP rating) is defined in international standards and indicates the level of resistance an electrical enclosure provides against mechanical impact.
- K09 rated items are protected against 10 joules of impact, which is the equivalent of a 5kg mass being dropped from 200mm above the product.
